Windows

Install on Windows

Four steps, one of which is convincing Windows that I'm not a villain.

  1. Download the Setup.exe

Each app has its own installer.

  2. Get past SmartScreen

Windows may say "Windows protected your PC". The installer isn't code-signed yet, so Windows doesn't know me. Click More info, then Run anyway.

  3. Let it install

It installs for your user only, without admin rights, and adds Microsoft Edge WebView2 if your system doesn't have it yet. Then the app starts.

  4. Updates come to you

When there's a new version, the app asks and installs it on the next restart. You can switch the automatic check off in the settings.

Linux

Install on Linux

For Linux Mint, Ubuntu, Debian and everything else with apt. One command, I promise.

  1. Download the .deb

Save it wherever your downloads go, usually ~/Downloads.

  2. Install it with apt

Open a terminal in that folder and run:

    sudo apt install ./localsound_0.50.1_amd64.deb
    sudo apt install ./localmoney_0.24.0_amd64.deb

apt also brings GTK 3, libnotify and WebKitGTK along if they're missing.

  3. Start it

Find it in your application menu: LocalSound under Sound & Video, LocalMoney under Office.

  4. Updates come with the system

New versions arrive with your regular system updates, like everything else apt installed. For that, the install adds ArchaicTools to apt's package sources. The app tells you when one is ready, and a restart of the app finishes the job. .rpm packages might follow one day.

Checksums

Trust, but verify

Compare the SHA-256 checksum of your download with the one below. If they match, the file is exactly what I published.

How to check

On Windows, in PowerShell:

Get-FileHash .\LocalSound-win-Setup.exe -Algorithm SHA256

On Linux, in a terminal:

sha256sum localsound_0.50.1_amd64.deb

System requirements

What you need

Identical for both apps.

Requirement Windows Linux
System Windows 11, 64-bit 64-bit, with apt: Linux Mint 21, Ubuntu 22.04, Debian 12 or newer, and friends
Also needs Microsoft Edge WebView2. The installer adds it if it's missing. GTK 3, libnotify and WebKitGTK. apt installs them with the package.
Installs For your user only, no admin rights needed With one sudo apt install
Updates The app offers new versions and installs them on restart With your system updates; the app tells you when one is ready

macOS

Not yet

There is no macOS version, and I'd rather not promise one I can't deliver.

Older versions

Looking for an older version?

Only the newest version is available for download, because it's the best one I have. Probably. What changed when is in the release history of LocalSound and LocalMoney.
